work complications

I spoke with my boss today and discovered further complications to my already complicated job position. I work from home, occasionally, doing mainly special administrative projects for the recruitment department of a large health system. Well, I just found out they are now outsourcing the recruitment duties! So, my boss, who had set up this special position to keep me with the company (after I lost my son, I left my permanent part time position as I just needed some time to grieve and focus on family). My boss, who knew I could be trusted to do some of these confidential, administrative things and to track hours ethically, is now being shifted to a different position within the system. Hm. Where does that leave me? My chances of ever being called on to work are pretty much nil. Everything I was helping with will now be handled by a company across the country! However, she said I will remain on the payroll, should I want to shift into a more permanent position one day (which is still quite a perk).

So that leaves me... in prayer, pretty much. I have been researching online opportunities, such as setting up a profitable blog or possibly becoming a virtual assistant for a blogger or a small/large business owner. Both would be from home, but both would require time set aside for those responsibilities. We are in a position right now that we require supplemental income to cover our needs. That commitment is something I am ready to make.

So, to God is where I turn, and to you, my blog readers! Should you have any advice, wisdom, or real-life stories I would be interested in hearing below in the comments. And of course, if you know of any potential employers looking for a virtual assistant, that comes with experience and references, please feel free to email me.

ho, hummmm glum

Bummer. Feeling a little bummed tonight. Just got news that my fantastic too-good-to-be-true work from home job is coming to an end. I have, at most, 8 weeks. So, I sit now wondering what God has in store for us. The money will be missed (isn't it always) and the chance of finding something like this again seems slim to none. But, when I remember that it was such a "God thing" that I even got this position, I know that my last statement is false. Staying away from looking at the budget so I don't lapse into a state of "oh my goodness, what are we going to do" I dare to dream at what might be in store for us instead of me working... perhaps a baby? I would appreciate your prayers. I, like the 600,000+ that filed for unemployment last week, just continue to take that step of faith and continue to praise God for what we do have despite what we're losing.

contributing... more than just money

I worked yesterday. The oh-so-exciting employment of data entry! ;-) I'm filling in around the health system I work for and am scheduled for this data entry position each Thursday for the next five weeks. What I'm doing is I'm working for the United Way campaign, entering people's contributions. I see numbers ranging from zero to over two thousand dollars. As I filled in all the blanks under each individual's name, I got to thinking... if this were a spiritual contributions statement would I be clicking the "zero donation" button or "add new donation"? Do I see and take opportunities around me to "contribute" to the kingdom of heaven? Could I be labeled "poor in spirit" as Jesus defines in the Beatitudes (in other words, am I broken and hungry, desiring God to mold me and use me to His service)? Continuing in the Beatitudes passage.. am I mourning that which mourns God? Do I hurt when I see others that don't know Him as Savior and Lord? Do I grieve when I see others' make decisions and mistakes based upon their lack of a relationship with God? If I am, I am in the perfect place to find and make contributions to the Kingdom. If I'm not, then I need a serious spiritual checkup. Where are you today?

delightful!

I don't know how the weather is by you, but we had been suffering through some sweltering days last week and today was such a breath of fresh air (literally)! I went outside for lunch today. Talk about gorgeous! The hospital that I work for (well, across the street from) has a beautiful campus with many trees. I took my lunch across the street and found a nice shady spot and plopped down with my lunch. I need to pack a blanket next time... lol. I had to sit on the edge of a stone wall today. A little hard, but worth the fresh air. Praise the Lord for a gorgeous day - His creation is beautiful!
